Phil Dickey
Managing Director, Registered Professional Surveyor, MNZIS
As a founding member of the company, Phil brings 35 years of invaluable experience as a Registered Professional Surveyor to BTW. Educated at Otago University, Phil's particular responsibility is to support our energy industry clients and manage the company's larger projects. Phil's expertise and experience includes projects in Australia and Malaysia as well as New Zealand involving seismic surveys and the associated logistic support, well site development, and pipeline projects. Phil can also offer strategic advice around land access, and community and iwi liaison.
Kathryn Hooper
Director, Masters in Applied Science, Manager - Resource Management and Environment
Kathryn studied at Massey University and Central Queensland University in Gladstone, Australia. Her experience includes five years within regional government in Taranaki and Wellington prior to joining BTW in 2001. Kathryn specialises in the preparation of feasibility studies, resource consent applications and Assessment of Environmental Effects, Environmental Impact Assessments and providing environmental policy advice to the petroleum sector. Kathryn also manages energy industry projects and is BTW's Quality & Health and Safety Manager. Kathryn is a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute and member of the Resource Management Law Association.
Grant Aitken
Director; Director Energy Division
Grant is the Director of BTW's Energy Division. He has extensive experience and knowledge in engineering, wellsite, and seismic surveys. He was educated at UNITEC Institute of Technology in Auckland and has experience surveying throughout New Zealand and overseas
in Australia, Canada, Papua New Guinea and the Middle East. Having initially worked as a Cadastral Surveyor in New Zealand, Grant then moved into the Seismic Industry where he worked for Geco Prakla, Western Geco & GeoKinetics (both offshore and onshore) before coming to BTW. Grant has been a company Director since 2008 and is responsible for managing wellsite development, offshore and onshore production facility surveys, seismic projects, field logistics and leading BTW's Energy Division.
Graeme Johnston
Manager - Energy Division
Graeme Johnston is a Registered Professional Land Surveyor and Licensed Cadastral Surveyor with substantial experience in construction project surveying. Having initially been employed by a civil construction company as an estimator and contracts adjustor he completed a Degree in Land Surveying at Otago University and subsequently registered following post-graduate training with a multi-discipline private surveying practice.
Graeme's post-registration experience has been gained on a wide variety of construction projects in Europe, North Africa, New Zealand, and South East Asia. He joined BTW as an Engineering Surveyor in early 2007, completed an extramural MBA in 2010 and is currently Manager of the Energy Section.
Project surveying in such a diverse array of countries has provided him with well-developed communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure and in difficult conditions, and a proactive and flexible approach to problem solving.
Bev Fletcher
Landonline e-survey Specialist
Bev is our e-survey Landonline Specialist with expertise acquired over 30 years working in New Zealand land information and mapping. Bev managed Land Information New Zealand's Digital Cadastral Database in Taranaki prior to it becoming part of Landonline. Bev has an excellent understanding of the capture and output requirements of Landonline, which is critical to our cadastral business.
Mike Gibson
MNZIS, DipSurv, Cadastral Survey Manager
Mike is a Registered Surveyor, educated at Otago University, with 30 years' experience as a cadastral surveyor in the Taranaki region. Mike has particular expertise in legal property boundary definition and land development projects.
Damien Parsons
Computer Technology
Damien provides BTW with Information Technology services. He is responsible for maintaining and developing our computer network and communications systems. Damien also assists in developing BTW's GIS technology.
Trudy Brewer
Trudy manages BTW's administration and accounts department and front company reception. This is a key role in the company, and Trudy has a detailed knowledge of BTW's business.
Benjie Orpilla
Senior Surveyor
Benjie specialises in engineering surveying, mapping and G.I.S. applications. He is a very well qualified surveyor with a strong electronic drafting and GIS background. Benjie originates from the Philippines, and is committed to becoming a Resident of New Zealand. He is a popular and valued member of our team.
Cameron Twigley
Environmental Planner
Cameron has been a practicing planner for over 10 years. He has a Bachelor of Social Sciences from Waikato University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. Cameron has previously worked for Council's both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He has specific experience in heritage planning and urban design. Since joining BTW in 2006 he has been involved in the preparation of resource consents, Assessments of Environmental Effects, Historic Places Trust applications and community consultation for energy companies, local government and other developers. Cameron is a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute and is a member of the Resource Management Law Association and the Urban Design Forum.
Dana Flogerzi
Surveyor
Joining us in 2008, Dana brings a special dimension to BTW Company. He has over nine years experience in surveying, primarily in the USA. Dana embraces all latest technologies in instrumentation and processing software. His strength in these areas is reflected in the extremely competent way each job is completed.
David Riley
Resource and Environmental Planning
David forms part of the planning team at BTW. Following the completion of a Resource and Environmental Planning Degree at Massey University he worked for the Taranaki Regional Council as a Land Management Officer. Working for BTW, David specializes in the preparation of subdivision and land-use applications as well as management of drilling waste disposal sites. David is a graduate member of the New Zealand Planning Institute and a member of the Resource Management Law Association.
Ian Dickey
Manager- Cadastral Services
Ian is the Manager of BTW's Cadastral Division. His specialist areas of expertise are in land development, cadastral, construction and offshore surveying. Having graduated from Otago University in 1998 he has worked in New Zealand and the UK on both large and small scale projects with both multi-discipline firms and small private practices. This experience has provided him a well rounded professional training. Ian became a licensed surveyor in 2006 and is currently focusing on land development projects utilising his skills in planning, design, engineering, supervision and of course surveying.
Jackie Smith
Administration Assistant
Jackie joined BTW in 2002 and assists in the administration and accounts department. Jackie takes care of the company reception and specialises in property searching.
James Tombleson
Graduate Surveyor
James graduated from Otago University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Surveying. James offers energy and innovation to our team, and is rapidly becoming a very competent surveyor.
Jason Sole
Surveyor - Energy Industry
Jason has over 20 years experience in surveying, specialising in the Energy Industry. His areas of expertise are in oil wellsite development, seismic surveys, pipeline route surveys and construction surveying. Jason also assists in landowner liaison work where access to land for energy projects is required. Jason is well respected in the Energy Industry and is an extremely reliable and competent team member.

Kathryn is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, specialising in land development projects. Her area of expertise is in Civil Engineering Design and Urban and Rural subdivisions. Kathryn has a Bachelor of Surveying degree from Otago University, having graduated in 2001. She is an extremely competent surveyor and very valuable member of our team.

Kevin Stone
Land Liaison & Land Access Manager
Kevin joined BTW Company in 2002 to manage BTW Land Liaison and Land Access business. Kevin has over 40 years experience in cadastral survey work, including draughting, mapping and management of land information. Kevin's role involves liaison with landowners (and their advisors), preparation of land information and access documentation, and administration of land access arrangements.
Leif Lauchlin
Trainee Surveyor
They say a surveyor is only as good as his chainman. Leif certainly matches the caliber of our surveyors in his role as Surveyors Assistant, and is a key team member. Leif is developing his skills with view to becoming a surveyor, and is proficient with all survey instruments. Leif is also responsible for the maintenance of our equipment and fleet of vehicles.
Margaret Gibson
Survey and Draughting
Margaret has extensive experience in the surveying industry, especially in the preparation of survey plans and relevant documentation, and in draughting. Her knowledge of the cadastral system is extremely valuable to our business (and to husband Mike!).
Nik Pyselman
Environmental Planner
Nik is an Environmental Planner who specialises in preparing Resource Consent applications , environmental project management, community/Iwi consultation, and preparing Assessments of Environmental Effects. Nik has a Commerce Degree (Economics) and a Science Degree (Environmental Studies, Geography) from Victoria University, is a member of the Resource Management Law Association, and has experience working in local and territorial authorities
Paul Street
Senior Surveyor
Paul has the ability to tackle any survey task. He is extremely competent in all aspects of field surveying, using latest technology, and is equally competent in processing field data into final product, being either plans or reports. He is the man to get the job done!
Paul Thompson
GIS Manager
Paul joined BTW Company in 2008 to manage our expanding GIS business. With over seven years experience in the GIS industry, Paul brings a wealth of experience to our company. He has worked on projects throughout Australia and England, both in industry and central government. Paul's depth of knowledge in GIS applications is proving invaluable to BTW and our clients.

Richard Pearce
Land Liaison
Richard has over 25 years experience in landowner liaison work. Working primarily for the Energy Sector, Richard specialises in gaining access to land for seismic surveys, oil wellsites, pipeline easements, and rights of way.
Ross Gunn
Senior Surveyor
Ross is a qualified and experienced technician surveyor. He has 25 years experience in all aspects of Engineering/Cadastral surveying and draughting utilising modern Robotic Theodolites, GPS and up to date surveying software. Ross is responsible for the Civil Engineering Design and Plan preparation of large and small construction projects for both Local Authority and Private Sector clients. All design and draughting is produced with up to date AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Ross has over 20 years AutoCAD experience and is the CAD Manager responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the company CAD draughting procedures and drawing templates.
Rupert Goldsmith
Bachelor of Surveying
Rupert has been with BTW Company for over three years, since graduating from Otago University with a Bachelor in Surveying. Rupert has specialised in land development, including Civil engineering designs, cadastral surveying and mapping. He is also experienced in seismic surveying. Rupert has an excellent understanding of advanced technology in all survey instruments, and processing software.
Sue Robb
Resource Consents
Sue specialises in preparation of Resource consent Applications for subdivisions and land use applications. Sue is extremely well qualified in this role, having a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town. Sue is also an associate member of the New Zealand Planning Institute and a member of the Resource Management Law Association.
Tim Verry
Surveyors Assistant
Tim offers a huge contribution to BTW in his role as a Surveyors Assistant. He has a very good understanding of field survey procedures, and has a genuine interest in our business
Michael Matangi
Engineer
Joining the BTW team in 2010, Michael brings with him 15 years experience in the civil engineering field. With an NZDE (Civil), he has undertaken numerous building, geotechnical, roading, sewer, stormwater and water projects, including hydraulic water modeling. With his experience as an IANZ accredited laboratory technician, and having a background in draughting, road safety, design & contract management, he is a valuable asset to our BTW clients.
Bruce Chadwick
Engineer
Bruce has over 10 years experience in the Civil Engineering and has a New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (Civil). Originally employed by a Civil Construction Company as a Trainee Engineer on the Mangere Waste Treatment Plant Upgrades, Bruce later moved on to working in the Engineering Consultancy field. With specific experience in Topography Surveying, Engineering Design, Contract Documentation and Project Management/Supervision of physical works within Local Government District Councils'. Projects ranging from urban and rural roading, stormwater reticulation and sewer collection and disposal, water reticulation modeling and supply.
Steve Tooley
Manager- Engineering Services
Steve is a Chartered Professional Engineer. He has broad experience gained in over 35 years as a practicing engineer. This has included his involvement in significant projects for clients across local authorities, central government, petrochemical industry and large hydroelectric power projects. Roles have included Design engineer, Project Manager or Consultant Principal. Projects have included Roading Network Contracts (Local Roads and State Highways); the New Plymouth Foreshore Development; the repair/upgrades of tunnels across Taranaki; and the overview of projects such as Oakura Sewer, Kapuni and New Plymouth Water Treatment and many large water reservoir projects.
Colin Bell
Senior Engineer
Colin is an Engineer with a wide design and construction experience mainly gained in Taranaki, and predominantly for District Council clients. Projects have included bridges, large culverts, geotechnical projects, water supply and sewage systems. He is a member of the Institute of Professional Engineers NZ (MIPENZ).
Norm Jacobs
Engineer
Norm has over 34 years of experience working on Local Authority roading and other infrastructure projects in North Taranaki. He has NZCD, NZCE, REA and is a Technical Member of the Traffic and Transportation Group of IPENZ. His experience is predominantly in road design, contract documentation, traffic engineering, roading minor safety and local infrastructure projects. Norm has been with BTW since June 2010.
Darryn Fenton
Senior Engineer
Darryn is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 15 years' Civil Engineering experience. He returned to New Zealand in January 2011 following 6 years residing in the United Kingdom where he was been working on major highways and rail infrastructure projects which included the M25 London Orbital and Crossrail. Previously he has worked in New Zealand on Roading Network Contracts (State Highways and Local Roads) and a wide range of other infrastructure projects.
Chris Smith
Engineering Surveyor
Chris has over 35 years' experience in the surveying industry. He started with BTW in 1981. He left in 2007 to work for an earthmoving company and re-joined BTW in 2010. He has completed the NZ Survey Technicians Certificate and is an associate member of the NZ Institute of Surveyors. He spent many of his early years with BTW involved in oil exploration surveys in NZ & abroad and now specialises in Wellsite and pipeline alignment design and pipework surveys on both onshore & offshore installations.
Tony Alcock
Engineer
Tony has over 25 years' experience in Civil Engineering and holds a New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (NZCE Civil), he joined BTW's engineering division in May 2010. Having initially been employed by a local consultancy in the early 1980's as a surveyors assistant Tony gained experience in engineering surveys, cadastral surveys, drafting and materials testing before moving into local authority employment where greater engineering experience in roading and drainage was gathered. Tony has also held positions with civil engineering contractors as contracts manager and with local and national consultants as a project engineer specialising in the preparation and management of contracts for roading, drainage and energy sector construction.
Laurie Jorgensen
Engineer
Laurie was born and bred in New Plymouth and has more than forty years of direct involvement in construction and civil engineering projects. This experience ranges from site supervision and management of residential and commercial building contracts , roading construction and maintenance, water and sewerage reticulation to bridge and culvert inspections through employment in private, local authority sectors and self-employment. Some of the more notable projects are the T & G Insurance building in New Plymouth, The Northern Outlet of New Plymouth and more recently the construction of the sewer pipeline from Oakura to New Plymouth and the sewer reticulation of Oakura township. Laurie has also completed more than 10 years volunteer service as a radio operator for Civil Defence. His other interests are Amateur Radio and fishing.

Andrea is an Environmental Planner specialising in assessments of environmental effects and resource consent applications, in particular for the oil and gas industry.
Andrea graduated from Massey University in 2006 after completing a Bachelor of Resource and Environmental Planning (Hons), and joined BTW in 2010.
John Hermann

-Senior Surveyor
John is a licensed cadastral surveyor, working on a part time basis at BTW, engaged in; subdivision applications, cadastral surveying, and engineering reporting. He has a passion for rural outback surveys. John has surveyed throughout NZ and Samoa. He is involved in lecturing on surveying and engineering for NZIHT around NZ when not with BTW.

Tim is a graduate surveyor who has worked at BTW for the last 2 years. Tim specialises in cadastral and seismic surveys and has worked throughout New Zealand and overseas.
Jacob Hechter
GIS Manager
Jacob joined BTW in 2011 to manage our expanding GIS business, having just completed a master's degree at Auckland University. With Jacobs depth of knowledge in GIS applications he will prove invaluable to BTW and our clients.

Ian Steele
Senior Civil Engineer
Ian is a civil engineer with most recent experience in road maintenance contracts, bridges, road and pavement asset management for road controlling authorities throughout New Zealand and Australia. After completing his degree at the University of Canterbury in 2001, Ian has worked in civil design providing consulting services for mostly local government (roads, bridges and utilities) before a 4 year period in Australia mainly concentrating on road asset management before joining BTW in 2011 as a Senior Civil engineer.
